Most veterinary practices today have standard x-ray technology used in their office. At Cumberland Animal Hospital we have digital x-ray technology which is has superior quality and accuracy. The images taken by our doctor can be manipulated by our computer, meaning fewer x-rays may need to be taken. There is very little exposure to radiation to your pet under our digital system. Unlike traditional x-ray system, your pet’s images can be emailed to a specialist if necessary insuring faster treatment for your pet.
X-rays are a wonderful tool used by human doctors and veterinarians alike to diagnose a multitude of issues that may arise in our patients. Not only can an x-ray be used to locate a broken bone or swallowed foreign object, but it can also be used to detect abnormal organ size and certain cancers. Some x-rays are done while your pet is conscious and others are done while your pet is under anesthesia (ex: hip x-rays that require special positioning).
While x-ray is an amazing service for most issues facing our pets, sometimes further testing is required. At Cumberland Animal Hospital we are pleased to provide ultrasound services in addition to x-rays. Ultrasounds are exams that require almost no preparation, are low in radiation and provide instant results to the doctor. Your veterinarian will use ultrasound to check masses, organ size and texture, vasculature, heart condition and abnormal fluid collections. Our doctors can also use ultrasound on pregnant pets to know the size of a litter and the healthiness of the mother.
